National Survey home page with a sample SMS conversation
Home screen: a survey question by text and the recipient's replies.

Estate agents, developers and online shops hold thousands of contacts and don't know what those people think. The service asks them by text from the client's own number, and a website tells recipients who is asking and how to opt out.

Challenge

Estate agents, developers and online shops hold thousands of contacts and have no idea what those people think. A newsletter brings no answers, and calling everyone is not realistic.

When someone gets a text with a question from a service they don't know, they search for it first. If nothing comes up, they assume it's a scam and don't reply.

Solution

We designed a service that sends short surveys through an app on the client's phone. The message comes from a number the recipient knows, and every answer has a name attached, so the client knows whom to call.

The website's main job is to reassure the person who got the text. It explains who runs the survey, that replying is optional and that replying NO opts them out. A second layer describes the service for database owners: a catalogue of survey types, the process and the data rules.

Two separate safeguards keep internal documents apart from the public site, so nothing but the site itself goes out.

The process in four steps, app installation included.

How it works

  1. 1

    Brief

The client says what they want to find out and hands over the database. We clean it and remove duplicates.

  2. 2

    App

The client installs an app on their phone once. Texts go out from their own plan.

  3. 3

    Sending

Questions go out in batches at sensible times of day. Anyone who replies NO stays excluded from later waves.

  4. 4

    Output

The client gets a summary and the raw data, with a named contact behind every answer.

What it does

  • Texts from the client's own number, not an anonymous gateway
  • Named answers the sales team can act on
  • Catalogue of six survey types with sample questions
  • Recipient section: who is asking and how to opt out
  • Opted-out contacts stay excluded
  • Internal documents never reach the public site

Outcome

The service runs for one client in real estate. The website is finished but not live yet, because it is waiting for its domain.

We removed pricing and the enquiry form on purpose. The site is not there to win clients. It is there to show the service is real.
